Quick start

Once Give Me Too is installed, it is ready to be used. When the program starts for the first time, it creates a folder where the captured data and log files will be stored. You can specify any custom path or accept the path suggested by Give Me Too.

In most cases you need to perform just two steps before you start working:

Click the Capture button on the toolbar.

The dialog window that appears offers you the following options:

  1. Select network interfaces to be monitored.
  2. Choose network protocols to be analyzed for each interface.
  3. To capture network traffic on switched networks you can use Anti-Switch.

Click OK, and Give Me Too will start capturing the data.

In the upper right-hand corner you will see a graph similar to the one shown below:

The green line indicates the number of incoming packets per second.

The yellow line indicates the number of incoming bytes per second.

Each time when Give Me Too captures a file or an e-mail message, a corresponding record appears in the HTTP, FTP, SMTP, IMAP, POP3, IRC, ICQ or AIM tab.

All captured data are stored in the working folder.

By default, the path to a captured file looks as follows:

HTTP

{Working folder}\ Data \ Files \ HTTP \ {NIC number} \ {client's IP address} \ {host name} \ {MIME type} \ {file name}

For example: D:\GrabbedStuff\Data\Files\HTTP\1\192.168.1.1\www.microsoft.com\text\html\5e3152cf@index.html

FTP

{Working folder}\ Data \ Files \ FTP \ {NIC number} \ {client's IP address} \ {server's IP address} \ {path} \ {file name}

For example: D:\GrabbedStuff\Data\Files\FTP\1\192.168.1.1\192.168.1.2\pub\my_folder\my_file.zip

SMTP

{Working folder}\ Data \ Mail \ SMTP \ {NIC number} \ {sender address} \ {recipient address} \ {file name}

For example: D:\GrabbedStuff\Data\Mail\SMTP\1\192.168.1.1\From source@somesourcehost.com\To dest@somedesthost.com\letter[0000000b]-02.21.2003-15.52.46.eml

IMAP

{Working folder}\ Data \ Mail \ IMAP \ {NIC number} \ {account} \ {file name}

For example: D:\GrabbedStuff\Data\Mail\IMAP\1\X-User\letter[00000001]-01.20.2003-16.10.50.eml

POP3

{Working folder}\ Data \ Mail \ POP \ {NIC number} \ {account} \ {file name}

For example: D:\GrabbedStuff\Data\Mail\POP\1\X-User\letter[00000001]-01.20.2003-16.10.50.eml

The path to log files looks as follows:

{Working folder}\ Logs \ {log file name}

Log files are named using the following scheme:

{protocol name}-{current date}.txt

For example: D:\GrabbedStuff\Logs\http-05.21.2003.txt
